    Bro smashing in a bag seems.. so morbid. I couldnt bring myself to that??

    Thankfully I’ve never had to euthanize a fish of mine. But with that said I personally have no other input but if I had to id go off this post as they seemed like they knew what they were doing

    Unfortunately, clove oil is not the most humane way to euthanize labyrinth fish. Please don’t blame yourself though, it’s such a common misconception because it’s generally the best method for other types of fish.

    [This](https://www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/s/sfhSmgwvJh) post has a lot of helpful information in the comments. I will warn you though, it’s a bit upsetting to read.

    There’s a difference between “works” and “humane”.

    Works = kill them

    Humane = kill them with no suffering

    Even if you euthanized with clove oil before, it doesn’t automatically mean he was in pain. It can be painless, but it is much harder to do than with other fish, so the likelihood of it going wrong is higher.

    Which is why it isn’t recommended anymore. Please don blame yourself about your passed fish, you did your best with the information you had. And as I said, it doesn’t automatically mean he was distressed.

    Going forward the blunt force method seems to be the most recommended. Wrapping the fish in a wet kitchen towel (or paper towel) seems to be the recommended method.

  5. Don’t use clove oil! I used clove oil to euthanize my baby because I was told it would be painless. It was not! I had to watch my poor baby thrash around and gasp for air as he suffered and there was nothing I could do. This was over a year ago now, and I still think about it all the time. I wish I had just worked up the courage to end his life quickly. He was a good boy and I miss him everyday 💜
