I’m looking into getting a betta fish, I’ve never had my own fish before but my parents have a huge fish tank so they know how to look after fish. What would I need to buy? I don’t want a massive tank but I want one the fish will be happy in, I just want one betta. What tank would you recommend and filters and lighting and stuff, where do you recommend I should buy from ? (I’m in the uk) I want a pretty tank but i don’t want to spend a ton of money, I’ve listed a photo of the sort of tank setup I want below. Thank you !

  1. The tank above would need a lid, they can jump out and pass away if not.

I got the fluval 15 gallon and I’m very happy. It’s not cheap to get this stuff started though, I can’t even tell you how much money I’ve spent on plants! The tank you have shown here. I’m sure it is quite expensive and also it’s not gonna look like this on day 1, it takes time and money!

  2. I would look on fb marketplace, I’ve got some tanks from there for really good deals. You want a tank that’s a minimum of 20L/5 gallons for a single betta.

You’re going to need a heater and a filter (I would recommend a sponge filter), bettas prefer planted tanks so if you are willing to have live plants and hardscape that would be best but silk plants work fine too (try to avoid plastic plants/decor or if you get plastic make sure you sand it so that it doesn’t hurt your betta). And very importantly, make sure you cycle your tank before introducing any fish.

    Good luck!

5 gallons minimum for long finned bettas, 10 gallons minimum for short finned bettas.

I buy plants from etsy. The 3rd photo you posted has only 3 types of plants. Could do something like that to save money (3 different looks of plants and of different sizes). I use rocks found in parks and beaches which i let sit in boiling water (i dont boil them, just pour poiling water in the bucket with rocks).

For lighting, ik the first photo light is more expensive and the second photo has a more affordable light but you can def cheap out on lighting. Third photo doesnt even have a light.
