I’m thinking about putting a betta fish in here along with some peaceful community fish.
Tank size is ~18G been cycling for more than 4 weeks. Heavily planted with tannins from dried leaves. Temperature is not an issue since i live in a warm area, water temp 25-30C
I’m thinking if i let the azolla cover most of the tank surface and reduce the water level slightly they might not jump out but what do you guys think?

Yeah, definitely put a lid on it. A grate might work, but it’ll need a bit of DIY, I think.
I doubt it. Keep the water level a little lower and should be fine.
That’s not a tank that’s a bin from Walmart mr.
2 inches gap from the waterline or risk finding a dried up betta one day.
They might not. I have a female and a male betta in 2 separate tanks, I don’t have a lid at all, they’ve never jumped out. Heavily planted, 15 gal tanks. So in my experience, bettas only jump if they’re not happy with their home.
Are you in Malaysia? I don’t think a betta would be suitable for that, but my dad has a planter-pond somewhat similar but bigger than your setup in Malaysia and he has a bunch of guppies in there and they do very well. I think he experimented with a few different kinds of fish but they kept dying except the guppies. Bettas jump a LOT. If you search this forum, you’ll see there’s several posts a month from people talking about their bettas jumping out of their tanks and dying.

Some will, some wont. Better to have some floaters to reduce that chance or just a clear net
Maybe you can lower the waterlevel a bit? Like an inch or 2/3 centimeters.
