I noticed recently that my betta Sweet pea was a little rounder than usual. I didn't think anything of it cause honestly girl me too, but when I was doing a water change today I noticed her scales. It's subtle but it looks like she's beginning to pine cone. I'm honestly really scared because I've seen on this subreddit that it's often a symptom of dropsy and there's not much that can be done. It does seem like it's in a pretty early stage so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse?

Any advice helps!

  1. You caught it early so start epsom salt baths and put her into a hospital tank. I managed to cure my boy from it but it will take some dedication to the cause.

  2. No matter what anyone says, it IS possible to save them if caught early enough. It is highly unlikely, but if she isn’t yet suffering, it’s worth a shot.

We even took ours to a vet who specialized in fish. He told us its extremely fatal, but he said it is always worth trying as long as the fish isn’t suffering.
