Going to spend a bit of time near Waterbury this year and depending who I talk to it’s either a great place to fish for brown/rainbow trout or just a stocked area that turns off around mid-summer.
I’ve fished for brook trout in most of the Winooski watershed and had great luck, but I’ve never even seen a brown trout in VT (I’ve also tried the Little River, Otter, and Mettawee). Do wild trout exist? Is everything just a holdover?
Not looking to spoil any holes/rivers, but just have no idea what climate change has done to the trout fishing in the larger river systems. I’ll swing by Fly Rod shop when I get there later this year, but wanted to see if anyone else has had luck over the summer for browns and rainbows.

Only finding brookies is a great sign! Browns and rainbows don’t belong in Connecticut.
All the trout in NH except the native small stream brookies are holdovers.
New England mostly destroyed their watersheds and coming from western Colorado, these rivers out here are nearly sterile, stocked or not.
Waterbury area has plenty of brown and rainbow fishing through the season. Little river, Mad and main stem below Bolton dam
