I hooked up on this beast with my ultralight rig. Got it on to the bank and then this A-hole swooped in from under the water and snatched it up.
Was very likely my all time PB, guessing 9lb + considering max drag is 8.8lb and it was running like it was nothing and every crank was maxing the drag.

this exact thing happened to me last week; I nearly shat myself because I didn’t even know there were gators in Jersey

I was at the park on the Jasper side of Dam B (East Texas) and a nice couple were throwing a retrieving toy for their energetic Lab. I pointed out that the big log out there moved a little closer each time their dog went into the water. They put him on his leash and secured him to the picnic table. Big gators in and around the Neches.
I would eat the fish and the gator. Kinda like a roasted pig with an apple in its mouth.
