I just bought this heater for my empty tank (300w) and noticed condensation/fogging inside the glass tube and a lot of redness after plugging it in. I've already unplugged it to be safe. Is it a manufacturing defect or is this normal? I've had heaters before and none of them did either of these. Is it safe to use? Am i overthinking?
It is only set to 26 degrees (78.8F)

Id pull that outta my tank and get a new one.
Edit: is this tank empty with no water in it? You should never ever plug those heaters in until they are fully submerged.
Send it back the manufacturer, or the shop for them to send back to the manufacturer.
Definitely faulty!
Nope. Get rid of it.
its malfunctioning, get rid of it. The internal relay is probably stuck on the “on” position
Jesus Christ, that is not okay 😮 ticking time bomb right there
The “redness” is normal in some heaters. You’re running 300W through a coil in a glass tube. Different construction heaters may or may not show the glowing effect, a lot of them now have ceramic elements internally that don’t visibly glow – but the old school wire-in-a-glass-tube style absolutely do. Especially a high-wattage heater like 300W+
Also, I’m hoping that thing is underwater. Never, *ever*, run an aquarium heater unless it’s properly submerged. Without the water to take the heat off the quartz tube, it will likely shatter.
The condensation inside isn’t really an issue – just trapped moisture. As long as it’s not leaking and still sealed, you should be fine.
Is it me of does there appear to be a cracking line towards the bottom of the heater. Also I think I may have the same or similar style and the instructions said to place it diagonal. Not sure if that will make a difference at all but id probably just return it or get a replacement.
When they die they get stuck on and your tank will be 30+ Celsius.
