This is my male betta, Sushi! The first two pictures are of him when I first got him, the other two are from today. I got him a few months ago and even from the day I bought him he had a little spot on his side. I never really thought anything of it. Today I was watching him and noticed it’s gotten way bigger than it was originally ! I regularly do water changes, he’s in a ten gallon tank, his water perimeters are fine and his heater is set at a constant 80. He seems happy as ever, eating fine, swimming around, playing.
I asked Chat GPT and it said it looked like a tumor but I was just curious if anyone had experienced anything similar? If that’s what it really is? Any help would help appreciated !!

My Betta got one on his eye – I eventually had to put him down
Apparently bettas are prone to tumors due to inbreeding
Other commenter is correct. It is a tumor, though not necessarily bad. Many fish still live very long, granted they have clean tanks.
Word of advice, never use AI to get recommendations for the health of a living creature, human or animal alike. It has killed/injured people, fish, and many more.
get that hideous rainbow gravel outta there
It does look seem to be a tumor, like the other commenters said. I’m pretty sure they can be harmless, but I’d ensure that you create the best environment for him. How long ago has the tank been set up? Is it cycled, have live plants, heater, etc? I don’t mean to be intense, but I also don’t want to judge because of pictures.
