Hey guys, I really want advice in how I can help my betta. I’m going to petco as soon as I can to get his water tested. I have two separate ammonia and nitrate testing kits I don’t think are that great but it’s saying the hardness of my water is very intense.
I’ve been using brita filtered water with a dechlorinator and an ammonia diminishing product to help out but he’s been getting worse. I tried putting him in an epson salt soak yesterday for 10 minutes and he didn’t pass out. I suspected he may have had swim bladder disease.
Should I set up a hospital tank for him? Used distilled water? What would you guys do? 😭

Cutting the tank water slowly with distilled or reverse osmosis water will soften it. Drip it into the tank with aquarium tubing slowly so the fish can acclimate.
I’m not very experienced but for now do NOT put him in ONLY distilled water! That would be a huge shock too.
Are you able to post your parameters for the group, because they’re going to ask. Do you have one of the strip testing kits at least?
Can you take a picture of the rest of the tank? What kind of decorations are in there, other fish, etc.
Maybe for now just put him in half tank water and half distilled water (try to get the same temperature in the hospital tank as your main tank) with The appropriate amount of therapeutic aquarium salt (I don’t know what the amount is because it depends on the size of your hospital tank). I hope you have a separate heater for the hospital tank because hospital tanks are supposed to be warmer.
If I’ve said anything wrong, please don’t hesitate to point out in this group I was just sharing a little bit of knowledge that I know so far
