Just got myself a tiny boat but I've never fished from a boat before, I've got a big reservoir nearby to go in but I don't know where to start or what to look for when I pick a spot!

Get a chart of the reservoir, electronic or paper. You can start on inlets and outlets, and working the shoreline as you would from foot, but from the opposite direction. Using the chart, you can target holes, humps, fingers and channels. Then it’s a matter of experimentation and experience.
