Any reason for this brand new (albeit cheap) reel to stick at that position? How to fix?
Gets a little sticky when towards the bottom there

Don’t think there’s much you can do. The gear and oscillator shaft seem to have friction in that position which points to a bad design and/or manufacturing defect.
There are cheap reels and then there are really cheap reels. A 20$ Shimano FX would not have this issue.

If you open it up, im sure the crosswind gear has a tooth or two broken off
