I’ve been running LiveScope for a while and yeah it’s insane tech, no question.

But lately I’ve been catching myself staring at the screen more than actually fishing, and it’s starting to kill the fun a bit.

I’ve been debating whether to keep it or strip things back this season and go simpler. Weird part is a couple guys I fish with have already ditched theirs, which got me thinking even more.

Curious if anyone else has gone through that phase or if you stuck it out?

  1. I don’t have one but, i imagine it kinda takes the magic of getting a fish to hit your lure away? like you feel less accomplished if you can watch your lure on camera, see a fish looking at it, etc, it’s more like a fishing game at that point.

  2. I don’t like the idea of video game fishing so I use my LS to just look for signs of life, structure etc and just break it down like I would normally and that’s how it works best for me. I use spot lock quite a bit so staring at the screen is kind of pointless.

  3. I don’t have one but I haven’t wanted one. My favorite part of fishing is getting surprised by the bite. Expecting it would take a lot of the excitement out of fishing. Granted you’ll catch more and that’s cool but I imagine each fish matters less. I would go without the LiveScope for leisure fishing and turn it on for the tournaments. Can’t blame the pros for using it. Half of them probably don’t like it either but they know their opponents will use it as an advantage if they don’t.

  4. I go fishing to get away from the noise/BS and relax. It’s nice just to turn your brain off and toss a lure for a few hours. If I want to stare at a screen, I’ll sit at home and play Xbox.

Never moved towards it in the first place. When I’m on my jon boat fishing, it’s one of the few times in my day I can get *away* from screens. I ain’t out there to play video games or learn new technology, I’m out there to be at peace and hopefully catch something. But it’s about more than catching, and if that’s not true for you, I’d honestly and genuinely suggest another hobby

I would like to play with one for an afternoon, but have no desire to own one. I already look at my finder more than I want to. It removes some of the magic.

  7. A local private (HOA) lake banned them last year. I’ve been fishing it for a decade as a guest.

I never used it, and it might be my imagination, but I’d say the bite feels easier now. The lake isn’t that big so pressure is always a concern.
