I’ve had an ammonia issue for like an over month now and I can’t find the source. I added a larger filter last week and I’m still having spikes. I’m at a complete loss and I’m ready to just give up. I have these fake rocks in my tank that say they’re aquarium safe but I’m wondering if this is what’s causing the issue. It has a large hole in the bottom that goes over halfway up inside the rock. When I lifted it up, my tank smelled like rotten eggs. Could this be slowly leaking into my tank every day and causing the ammonia issue?
I have one betta and now only 3 Pygmy corydoras and an amano shrimp left

No water circulation and no oxygen in those empty spaces. Chances are it’s from the harmful bacteria that thrive there.
if it smells i would take it out immediately. it’s likely trapping junk in there. take it out do a nice big water change and if your levels start to go down over the next week or so you’ll know that was your issue.
I had a similar situation with Petcos Holey Rock. It completely messed up my water parameters specially the PH. I would remove it if I was you

Here’s what the underside looks like. It does have two small holes that you can see the light through but I’m not sure that’s enough since it smelled when I picked it up
What do you mean by “changed the filter?” Did you use the same media? I doubt it’s the rock’s fault.
