I use them for clipping weights to bottom rigs. I don’t use them to clip line to lures.

I don’t love snaps. A fish could strike and open it and I find them easy to deform. I prefer TA clips or fastach clips. I use them for 95% of lure fishing.

I don’t use them on standard gear hard baits, but I do on ultra-finesse and BFS gear. Re-tying super thin line is a real pain for me (bad vision and Minnesota…brr…cold).
I mostly don’t use them on normal-sized gear because it forces to keep up on knot-tying skills.

In socal we use them for quickly changing jerk bait colors while wading in the surf

I can see not using them in highly pressured waters, with a finesse presentation. But if youre power fishing, or trolling, fuck it. Use em, rhe fish is reacting anyway it won’t make a noticeable difference . 35 years experience fishing for everything you can catch in fresh water across canada

I have arthritis in my hands pretty bad, I use them when my fingers are too stiff to tie knots mostly.

Snaps are generally okay as long as you appropriately size them. Don’t run a Size 00 on a Texas rig for example. I used to run a lot of snaps for ned rigs, but now that I’ve got the combo availability I don’t anymore. I will still use crankbait snaps for my cranks though (more egg shaped). SOMETIMES you need to bypass the split ring, but in my experience generally not needed.
I PERSONALLY wouldn’t run them on something that’s requiring hard hooksets like bigger jigs. I also would advise against them in heavy vegetation because it can get caught on the snap easily.
Also, make sure they’re the duolock design like pictured and not the other cheapo kind. Think I’ve only ever managed to break 2 snaps and that was trying to pull out a snag.

I use them on crankbaits and jerk baits to enable freer movement.

I like an egg snap when I’m hot-swapping lures. I’ll gladly tie directly if I know I’m sticking with that method for a while or if I have mulitple rods with me.
I also throw pretty low weight. I’d be less likely to use one if I knew I’d be wrestling a monster, but the 2lb bass in the neighborhood pond isn’t breaking off that snap.
I will add that I remove my split rings from my hard baits right out of the box.

I’m not a fan of these when my hands are cold, they’re too fiddly when fingers are cold and stiff.

I use them because my kids want to change lures every 5 minutes.
