I started building my own fly rods, which had been fun, and finally started fishing them. Made a Euro Nymph rod, and a switch rod for fishing the surf. Just waiting to catch a fish on a fly I tied, with a rod I built.
I didn’t like carrying them around in cardboard or PVC tubes, and since I woodwork, whipped up a couple octagonal tubes, one is blued pine and the other is cherry. Walnut caps. I made one too small for my switch rod so a different rod lives in there now.

Awesomeness!! Maybe the next tube you make can hold the reel on the rod. With the rod broken down and the reel still attached.
