Hey all. Getting ready to spool my metanium and I’m running into some confusion regarding capacity. The box says (image below) however when I do the math I’m getting significantly more capacity figures. I’m doing 20lb braid and the math is working out to be approximately 170 yards not 115.

I know I’m missing something here but I’m not sure what. Any help is appreciated!

  1. Is the chart for braid?

Diameter of the line is usually what these go off of. Braid is usually over twice as strong at the same diameter. Look up mono or fluoro and look at the line diameter in whatever lb test. Then look at the packaging on your braid, probably half the diameter almost. You can load down a reel with braid.

Different line is different thickness. You’ll notice a significant enough difference between braid brands which will impact spool capacity +/-. You’ll need to adjust your backing qty based on how much line you’re putting on. I buy 150 yard spools and use a 12lb mono backing. Sometimes it’s easier to eyeball it instead of trying to math it out. You could always take it off and adjust backing if you’re way off
