I mean you’d be a lot better off with a proper roof rack. enjoy it though. Canoeing even without a pole along is one of the best things to do so winner all around.

You can purchase a universal roof rack that clips to your cars roof. It would probably keep your roof less scratched

Buy one extra paddle and tether to a gunwale. Also get some good PFDs for each canoeist and have fun!!

If I recall correctly. These older aluminum canoes were made from recycled B-52s from world war 2. Enjoy.
