I’m trying to decide between these two rods and could use some advice, especially since I’ve never used a baitcasting setup before.

My main goal is carp and catfish fishing (like 90% of the time) using stuff like a method feeder, Carolina rigs, etc. From what I’ve read, rods like the Ugly Stik are actually designed specifically for bank fishing for catfish and heavy setups .

That said, I wouldn’t mind being able to use the rod for bass occasionally—but it’s not a priority.

Here’s where I’m stuck:

• I’ve never used a baitcaster before, so I don’t know if jumping straight into that (Vendetta) is a bad idea

• The Ugly Stik seems more beginner-friendly and built for what I’m doing, but it’s spinning

• The Vendetta seems more versatile for bass, but I’m worried about learning curve + whether it’s ideal for heavier carp/catfish rigs

Questions:

1. Which rod would you pick for my situation?

2. Is it dumb to start with a baitcaster for this type of fishing?

3. If I go spinning (Ugly Stik), what size/type reel should I pair with it?

I greatly appreciate any and all advice you can give me

As of right now I would just go with a Bass Pro rod especially if your just getting into bait-casters. They are good rods for the money and will catch just about anything

If you are truly stuck between those two I would go for the Abu Garcia. So long as you have the right bait you could basically catch anything

Honestly dude, unless you’re just specializing to fish for catfsh and carp and hucking big leads and bait. I would grab the vendetta, most frehwater fish you can land on 10 lb mono as long as you play the fish. If you’re looking for a specialized setup, get the ugly stik, though most serious carp guys I’ve seen use baitrunners and spinning rods.

Edit: rels I personally use are the daiw B 3000-5000 deending on wat I’m looking to tangle with. Any baitcaster will do, except bfs models. All just depends on what you’re argrnting most.
