It’s a new rod and reel. Am I casting it wrong or something? This’ll happen and then a huge tangled mess of the line.

  1. When youre winding in your line make sure its under tension. Whats happening is when its coming off the spool when you cast its not tight on the spool so its falling off prematurely and getting tangled in itself. Just make sure youre not reeling in slack line.

If youre using line that was spooled on the reel when you bought it, thats your problem. Companies put the cheapest crappiest line on the prespooled ones and then it sits in a warehouse or a truck for months and months and then by the time you get it, its coiled like a spring with line memory causing it to “jump” off the spool when casting.

Get some braided line and tie a mono or fluoro leader and never look back

Switch to braided line buddy. You’ll never have this problem again.

  4. These people are correct, I’ll add that you appear to be a bit over spooled, cut it off at the real. That may get you through the rest of the day…
