Just got him today, water levels are all down to zero except nitrates which is less than 5 ppm. He will go up for water and sink down but he just slowly moves around the floor in little hops but he rests a while.

Even Dianna Walstad uses filters in her “Walstad” aquariums so definitely consider getting a filter.

What’s the pH, GH, and KH in the tank?

He’s dying. His fins are clamped and he can’t breathe. There’s something in the water that’s hurting him. This is why the sub automatically asks for the parameters.

Looks like SBD. Try putting him in a quarantine tank and add epson salt sland Methylene Blue. Fast for at least 2 days.

I had a sad loss, but in hindsight my little guy was sick at the pet store and we gave him a much better final couple weeks.

I hope that’s not the case for you, your tank looks gorgeous. Check temp, don’t shock with sudden changes in ph or temp. All parameters… if those check out then think about the above, it might not be your fault and the little guy was stressed as heck to begin with

I saw you just got him, he is starving right now. Feed him- make sure he eats and then turn the lights off and leave him be until tomorrow

  6. Hi I really dont want to scare you but my betta did this for 3 days before starting to get dropsy. I really hope its not that

  7. I don’t know what it is, but every alien betta I’ve seen in stores, including one I brought home, don’t float super well. But after about a week he was back to swimming well. Swim bladder issue. Just keep an eye on him I’d say.

  8. Could be constipated/swim bladder, make sure you mix in frozen food

You can lower the water level to make it easier for him to reach the surface
