Change the line and go fishing!! If it caught fish when he had it why won’t it now!! Too many people are all about the gear. This new reel is this. The new rod I bought is the new bomb. Old Rods. Old guns. Old bows. Still catch/kill just as good as they did when they were NEW. lol. Just Go Fishing. Remember your grandpa. Take in the day!! Cheers
