So I’ve finished my first tank, my original plan was to have a purely planted tank and maybe some shrimp as I’m more of a plants and terrarium kind of guy, but now I’m wondering if I could get any fish. I have done some research and know it’s on the small side, 6.6gal. Some places suggest a single Betta but I’d be worried about the fins on the wood, is there anything else? I am cycling the tank before getting the shrimp anyway and I’ve got liquid testing kits so that side is sorted. Any help would be much appreciated.

Tank is a bit small for a betta, But a female, while not as beautiful as males, have shrt fins and just as much personality. I always have a betta in my two tanks. 29 and a 10 gal. The issue is, over the years, most bettas are ok with shrimp, but some will eat them, especially young ones. They might also eat snail eggs. In a heavily planted tank, it might be fine. In a 6 gal, put 5 or 6 neons. Thats should be ok.
You could tear some marimo moss and attach to the sharp bits on the wood so you can get that Betta. Or you can get a small school of guppies, about 5-6.
i have never had problems with Crowntail bettas (fin ripping) they are very nice.
