Just have this weird nagging anxiety that the counter can’t support the weight long term. I’m willing to put it in a stand, but ideal I want to keep it here. Am I being crazy?

  1. Honestly I feel like that’d be fine. Counters are pretty heavy duty, a big piece of wood like that should NOT snap.

Counters are pretty sturdy and it’s not so massive a tank. It looks fantastic there with all the plant life!

  3. You’ll want to gets good cover for it so soap, oil splatter, and food doesn’t end up in it

It’s probably fine from a weight perspective but i would put something under it to protect the counter from moisture. I kept one on a wooden dresser for a year and when I moved later the top of the dresser was damaged. I think maybe there was condensation underneath or I missed some spillage during water changes

  5. Love it! The countertop should support it just fine. Get a hood/cover for the top so random kitchen liquids don’t fall in there.

  6. Oil from cooking will start to cost your water especially if you grill or fry stuff.

  7. Weight perspective I add my vote to it would be fine.

My biggest concerns would be making sure it is properly covered and adequately protected from cleaning chemicals, fumes, food waste, etc.

One other concern would be the proximity next to the sink. Water has a habit of getting anywhere it wants. A fish tank isn’t easily moved. So I would be concerned about water getting spilled from the sink, getting under the fish tank and causing water damage to the counter and stuff like that.
