Hello I’m setting up a 6.8 shallow long soon, the tank is 8in tall and 20 inches long and 10in deep I believe!
It will be cycled for as long as needed I’m in no rush to get the fish, I plan on heavily planting, I do have a full spectrum light, heater, and sponge filter (will get sand for pygmy if I decide to go that route)
I am wanting to do a small school of Pygmy Cory and probably one single female betta!
I was wondering if this would work in a 6.8 gal or if I should just skip the pygmy corys and just do the betta!?
How many pygmy cory could I get with a betta in this size of a tank?
Does anyone have tips or experience on feeding the pygmy cory without the betta stealing the food?

Success depends on bettas temperament, if you want to establish the pigmy Cory school first I would get 5-6 of them, and then go to a higher end shop to see a clearer image of the bettas temperament, in places like petsmart they’re so stressed u never really know what they’re like
Corys generally need 10 gallons to thrive but the ground space in that tank is the same as a 10 gallon it just doesn’t have the height (I have that exact tank and a 10 gallon lol) so maybe it would be okay? But I wouldn’t risk it personally because of bioload and nitrate buildup. Female bettas also usually thrive in 10+ gallons because of their shorter fins (they partake in the zoomies). So I think the stock you want is more suited for a 10 gallon, the 6.5 gallon might thrive better with a longer finned betta and some shrimp or a snail :). Regardless of what you decide I think you can make it work!
