Yesterday I asked about an Amazon lure kit. Today it came and I tried a few in a popular park pond and caught a bluegill!
I'm excited to take it out to areas where the fish are less lure-savvy- this pond is a very popular spot and the fish here have likely seen a bit of everything already, and hold out for bait.

I don’t think that’s a bluegill. Looks more like a green sunfish with the blue lines around his mouth and the dull coloration.
Nice catch though.

You gotta tie a better knot my friend. That knot is going to lose you fish if something nice bites.
Look up Palomar knot or an improved clinch knot. Palomar knot will be the strongest one you can tie.
Nice catch! The sunfish can get confusing, they look similar to bluegill but can vary in color depending on the species.
Edit: both knots are really easy and strong, that’s why I recommend those two for you to learn.

Tiny hook, tiny piece of hot dog on it works everywhere you go for small panfish species like these.

Skip the snaps and swivels, tie directly. Use improved clinch knot and you’ll be set.

I believe the first one is a Redear Sunfish aka shellcracker

Just tie to the hook, you don’t need a snap swivel for this setup.
