Not a carp. Probably a sheepshead, or white perch or a million other names or similar species. Helps to include some location information for more accurate identification. Great catch!

Freshwater drum. I’ve caught a bunch of these guys out of Lake Ontario. They put up a great fight, not very good eating though IMO.

FYI common carp have barbels, its a unique feature compared to similar looking native fish and easy way to tell them apart.
