The line lay on my bg mq has been like this for awhile and I know adding a shim or two could help the line lay but I’m not really sure where to put it? I’m also thinking of getting it re-spooled so should I add the shim before I do that too?

Put one plastic spacer on it.
This is normal for a BG, check the diagram in the manual.
This is normal and part of Daiwa‘s so called Anti-Backlash-System (ABS).
You can fix the look with spacers, but the reel is supposed to look like that if spooled correctly.
If I remember right, there’s a tiny PIA c-clip that needs to be removed to get the spacer on.
