I’ve been fishing a lot in my life, I remember catching fish all throughout my childhood with my dad, and now as an adult I go fishing pretty regularly about 3-4 times a week and I’ll catch 1 fish maybe every other week, the thing is I don’t know why I barely catch anything. I love fishing and I know the fun is in the trip itself and the experience but I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I’m casting in the places I was taught to look for, reading the water gauges, going early in the morning, or even going out on a kayak or a boat to get to better spots. But I barely catch anything, I don’t want to give up my hobby but it’s kinda getting hard to go out every week and spend hours out there to amount to nothing. I want to catch fish but I guess my childhood luck didn’t follow me to adulthood. Any tips from any anglers

Oh and here’s a picture of my tackle and gear I use.

Focus on getting the hook in the water, many times I find myself wandering of thinking about things or trying to find a better spot to stand

Get some swimbait jig heads for those paddle tails and slowly wind it in. That’s what I’ve been catching most of my bass off lately.

  3. fish where there is fish, throw a live bait out every once and a while and tries new species!

Fishing heavily pressured spots? And do you know how to properly use the baits your using? Just wondering. Some people buy baits and expect them to work but don’t know how to use them correctly.

  5. You have plenty of tackle.

#You need to learn your location better and understand the fish patterns.

This is a perfect question for the old guys at your local tackle shop

I might add (but they’re not nesecary) a few crappie sized soft plastics to go with those small yellow jig heads you already have. Crappie Killas have been crushing bass for me all season.

I also love small buzz baits and mepps #1.
When in doubt, throw smaller lures

While I’m listing lures that you don’t need, a black and purple spinner bait, at sun down, has been probably the single most reliable bait we’ve ever fished. Between my brother, dad, and I….. That’s a LOT of years

  6. A couple days ago I wasn’t catching anything from 5AM to Noon. Tried all the usual lures that catch me fish, different rods, different speeds, different size hooks and lures, tried all the usual locations that have fruited success.

Took a nap to recover from the early morning. Then switched to inline spinners. I started catching them every 1-2 casts. Been riding that vibe for a couple days now. They still biting on the inline spinners. This year feels different. Weather is yoyoing in my area and probably changing how the fish act.

You’ve gotten good advice from others.

Looking at your gear and lures, it looks like you’re going for bass. The lures look good. One thing I noticed is the steel leaders and the rather large snap swivels. For bass, it’s best to never use either.

The steel leaders are unnecessary and prevent strikes because they’re so visible.

Pretty much same for the snap swivels. People in this sub defend them but it’s a simple fact you’ll catch more bass without them. And, you don’t need them. Nothing in your tackle requires a swivel to prevent line twist. And, if you want to prevent reties, use just a snap. They’re small, usually black, and not as visible and bulky. But, your best chance for success is to tie directly to your lure.

  8. I don’t think it’s a tackle issue. Good variety, maybe mix in some darker blue/purple colored soft plastics. If you’re really struggling for bites either fish somewhere else or try adding pro cure or a scent to your lures.
