Hey guys and gals, new to kayak fishing and looking to get my own off marketplace to save some money since I don’t know what I will like and not like yet. This one has a hole cut out on top back center behind seat. Guy says previous owner before him cut out for a motor. Makes sense, there is a reg # on the side. My question is, is it safe? I plan on taking into the Bay Area of gulf in coastal Tx Galveston area. Not open water but north of the gulf in shallow bay/marsh water. I want to live through my first kayak fishing experience lol thanks a lot!
Edit: any recommendations or advice or criticism is welcome. Thank you!

Not sure why someone would cut out a square access hole and leave it open. The person who did this had no idea what they were doing.. Run away OP, this is not good. This kayak is now structurally unsound and not safe.
Pass on this. There’s no way you can seal off that hole even with an aftermarket rectangular hatch. That aftermarket seat isn’t conducive to paddling with the arm rests. Not to mention the center of gravity is very high off the water for that kayak, and would feel tippy.
Get something at least 12 feet long for fishing the bays in Texas. You’ll want the longer kayak for better tracking, especially when it’s windy.
I would look more towards a Tarpon 120 or similar kayak.
I’d pass. That’s already a cheap kayak ($279 right now, price fluctuates with sales https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/lifetime-tioga-angler-91173) and buying it with a giant hole cut into it just doesn’t seem worth it. Especially since it sounds like you’ll be the 3rd owner (at least)… there is totally no way it is worth whatever that guy is asking for it…
Stay as far away from that death trap as possible
Thank you all!! Will be looking for a 12ft kayak with no holes! lol
