Figured I didn’t have to ask for backing lol. Especially on braid this thin. Whole 200 yard spool used up nd now I have to go home and put backing on myself then respool it all

Edit: To be clear, I’m not mad at the employee. It’s obviously not his fault because I’m sure if he knew he would’ve put on mono backing. I just thought it was funny.

Bold of you to assume the 19 year old kid who got hired last week, has any experience outside of “one time I went hiking”

It’s just a retail job to 75% of people there, no different than a grocery store, a pharmacy, or a clothing store

You expect bass pro employee to know to do reverse spooling when you hand them a 200 yd spool that would not definitely fill up the whole reel lol

Were you expecting free backing? You handed him the line and he spooled it. Go put your nose in a corner and think about what you’ve done here.

You’d think that a person who was into fishing would know how to spool his own reel

Do you really need backing on a spinning setup? I bet it would fish just fine.

  6. I bet it has backing but they didnt put enough on. Thats what happens when you put too thin P.E on a higher capacity reel.

That’s why I buy my reel or combo and just do it myself. Never trust someone else with my expensive ass gear

I worked at a commercial fishing store that was a certified Shimano dealer where being an employee required you to have that knowledge before being hired. I can’t imagine Bass Pro having those strict qualifications, but you would think they’d train them.

  9. Its a big “box store” job. Anybody can get hired. Not saying that there are no employees who know about fishing are working there but you can’t assume that everybody in the fishing section knows about fishing. First choice in those kinds of store are salesman. So, if it’s a choice between a knowledgeable angler who will push the cheaper lures that actually work and the best bang for the buck rod/reel combo or a salesman who will successfully push what management or corporate tells them to push because of higher profit, you know who they’ll hire.

You’ll get better knowledge from the mom & pop tackle shops near the popular fishing places.

Cheaper to fill your own spool anyway. Only takes a few minutes.
