I had a damascene conversion back in January and became obsessed with aquatics literally overnight. On Sunday, after 5 months of research, preparation and cycling, I picked up 8 pygmy cories and 4 cherry shrimp! They all seem to be settling in nicely. They are such charming little creatures.
The original plan was to make a community tank, but I love the pygmies so much. I thought some dither fish could be a good addition to help them feel secure, but they seem perfectly confident already. So now I can't decide whether to add a second species, or to just go all in on pygmaeus and build a big herd of them. What do you folks think? Are my pygmies going to be happiest on their own? What else would you want to see in here?
Specs –
Tank: Swell Aqua Oasis (63L, 60cm x 30cm x 35cm)
Filter: Fluval 107
Light: Week Aqua M Series
Heater: Eheim Jager
Lid: DIY polycarbonate
PH is 8.2, GH & KH are 13. I know this is higher than ideal for pygmies but LFS had them on our local tap water so I'm hoping they're adapted 🤞 I considered an RO system but decided I should keep things simple for my first tank

What is that white pink plant on the left? Co2? Gorgeous setup! Your pgymies will be very happy in this tank 😀
Although the Pygmies are great – its also nice having some action at different tank levels.
Id reccomend a small group (say 10 – 15) of nano schooling fish like ember tetra!
Beautiful tank.Plant color variety and use of space is top class! A school of single species micro fish to move above the Cory’s and shrimp would make this heaven
