I’ve been reading that adding sand on top of gravel and aqua soil is a bad idea because the sand will settle under and no longer stay on top. Is this true? I’m building my first tank for my kiddo this month.

this is an amazing set up, very keen to see how the substrate goes compared to your usual set up. Also I have been seeing a few youtube clips about peace lilly and it being poisonous? have you had any issues with them in your tanks seeing as you have alot with them in?

I've tried something similar but it made the water very dark (tannin like) but too dark. How does the soil not leach into the water?

Recently watched your welstead (not sure if that’s spelled correctly) video and I tried the same thing with and organic potting soil and got the exact same turn out black roots and a substrate with the sent of essence of ass gas then I seen u switch to top soil and have success so I switched mine and added a bit of stratum and instantly my tank was better was immediately clear and has stayed so for days where as before it was cloudy for days and days so yet again I gain quite a bit of knowledge from your videos much appreciated good luck on the new studio!!!…. What new studio?!!

Hey MD love the videos I definitely agree that gravel is absolutely perfect gravel I think some of my plants would absolutely love that gravel truly lol also this is just my thought but wouldn’t it be so cool if you could package up your aquarium fish water for people to buy to water there plants with so they could get all the nutrients they need to thrive and get as big as yours are?!?!! It would be amazing because a lot of people would be buying it from you plus you have enough tanks with enough water and fish etc to actually sell it unfortunately I don’t think this is possible to do this cuz it’d probably go bad during shipping but hey it was a thought I’ve had for some time well I’ll be looking forward to seeing your next video!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

What just came to mind, inspiration from your cardinal shirt, is a bonsai themed tank. I dont know if you have done one yet, but that would be cool to see.
Back in the 90's we ran a 165 bowfront planted tank with a massive carpet of glossostigma. We set up a small scale "replica" of the sarsen stones from stonehenge in the carpet with some dark oblong river rocks. It was a lot of fun. Kind of like the adult version of the old bubbling treasure chest. When done well, I see no issue adding cultural elements to aquascapes, but there is a hard line between tasteful and lame. I have no idea where that is, though you can see it when it happens. FWIW, I think yours is on the "right" side of that line.
Would have loved to see you drill a small hole in the mouth and use a bubbler on a low flow. Creating the illusion that is always shushing 😂

Going against the "yes" fans you have here who agree with everything you do regardless and going to say this is probably my least liked scape you've ever done. Just doesn't look anything special and is pretty plain. I much prefer a more natural and full plant build.
The roots for the peace lily, alternatively could you use those plant pot like things that hook on the side of the tank ? Would do a better job at hiding the roots
Not sure there is anything useful in aquatic compost or this stuff?
