I just got a male veil tail betta on Monday. His tank has been cycled before hand and all water parameters are good. He’s kinda just been swimming back and forth like this since he’s been in his new home. All his plants are live, and I do plan on getting more before anyone comes for me. Is this normal behavior for a new betta?

  1. It was the same for me, then it will start to glass surf when you’re near no issues

Yup! They just need time to settle in. You could probably turn the light off for a few days to help relieve some the bright light stress and reduce reflections on the glass.

    More plants will definitely help!

Mine did that for a while when I first got him. I think it’s “shock” in a sense like “wow!! So much room to swim!” He calmed down after a few weeks, and is really loving my rescape. I had coral in there before for the substrate. Made the ph waaay too high.

  4. Looks normal, they’ll get used to it, though, bettas would prefer longer tanks.
