Tank Specs:

20 gallon long, sandy, strong flow in mid and top water column. Calm at the bottom. I'm hoping the plants will grow out in the back and sides, and I'll keep a large open area in the middle. The temperature in my office gets up to 74-75. It gets down into the 60s in the winter, but my canister filter does have a heater. Filter is oversized for the tank.

Looking for stock that would enjoy a strong flow in the middle or top of the column. Or stock that would complement well.

Species I've Considered:

Rainbow Shiner (top pick, but I'm concerned I'm at the top of their temp range)

Trout Goodeids (temp concern)

Reticulated Hillstream Loaches

White Cloud Mtn Minnows

Gold Ring Danios

I'd love to have a school of active fish that enjoy the flow, as well as a centerpiece and cleanup crew. But I recognize I don't know what I'm doing and want to do right by whatever I get. I enjoy unique species like the trout goodeids that aren't the easiest to find.

    Kyathit danio would be wonderful.

And a 20 long would be too small for them long term, but you could grow out barilius or opsarius if you can source them.

My original idea was rainbow shinners and i see youve listed them, i also agree with the other comentor about leopard danios they do have a very trout like apperance

  3. 20 cpds. To stay in the danio theme. The advantage with danios and shiners is that you can go unheated. Which is nice.

Go for the Kyathit danios, they have that wild trout look and actually use the flow instead of fighting it.
