Got this new 40L with built in filter and light and it’s sitting on what I beleive to be an ikea table thingy, is it strong enough? I’ve been kind of worried about it it’s only been there like 3 days and hasn’t shown any signs of breaking or anything but it’s does kinda worry me, especially when I get some more rocks and fishy’s in. For context it’s 4×4

If you can please add 18mm plyboard across the full unit, this will give you the best chance of success

40 gal weighs about 330 pounds.

Kallax is pretty sturdy and in my experience can bare way more than the advised limit of 55 pounds on the top panel.

But I do believe you’re going to have trouble long term.

Edit: LMAO y’all are crazy using litres. 88 pounds of water on top of a Kallax is probably fine.

  3. The table might be made of particle board. Water will permanently damage particle board that comes into contact with it, and there’s no way you can completely avoid water splashing out during maintenance. The veneer might resist small spills, but I would use something sturdier.

  4. That kallax is not correctly placed – You have it set on its side and this way the top is a lot weaker (just hanging on two pins and two screws). Flip it the right way up (rotate 90 degrees so the long piece is the top and the screws are visible) and it should be good. But I would not put anything heavier on top and I would definitely anchor it to a wall so it does not collapse sideways! By the way You have the wall anchor points facing the front (the two holes on the bottom left corner should be at the back top of the unit and a wall anchroing bracket goes there)

Like someone else said, the unit should be flipped on it’s side so the top is supported by the sides.
As far as weight goes, these are very commonly used to store records, which way a lot in bulk and that rarely gives issues so 40kg on top should be fine, just be very careful with water getting in it
