This is years old, caught on a jig. How do I target these guys?

They are a frigging ride.

I catch them using shrimp on a slip rig quite often when fishing for catfish.

I’ve never really targeted or caught them bc of where I live but I’ve always been told chunk and live blue gill works best

Bowfin love frogs, swim jigs, spinnerbaits and like you said, jigs. I catch more in river systems than lakes but they’re sign of a healthy fishery. They’re usually bi-catch for me while I’m bass fishing. A top water bite in the pads is awesome. They seem to hang out in heavier vegetation and along weed edges. They’re ambush predators. One of the only game fish that I have seen swim backwards!

  4. They’re actually my favorite fish! Funny enough, raw shrimp from the super market. They love it.
