before the hate comments start, please know that she was left outside on a table in a petco deli cup in 85 degrees as “decoration” for a kids bday party i went to on saturday and it broke my heart so i took her home to give her a chance.
i have enough common sense, am familiar with fish/ animals in general and have done enough research so far to know the minimum requirements but like i said, i wasn’t planning on getting a fish so i was obviously ill prepared.
she has a temporary 3 gallon tank, heater, light, plants, hidey hole and im working on upgrading her to at least a 5g planted tank very soon!
in just the 4 days ive had her she has grown, fanned out, gained pigment, recognizes me and seems to be happy!
today i noticed some red spots on head and gills and thought it was just her pigment coming through but now im worried that maybe i messed something up or got her sick? i tested the water and the temp is at 78, her only erratic behavior is when she catches her reflection on the tank lol so any and all help/ recommendations/ tips are greatly appreciated!!
also if anyone can tell me what type she is that would be cool too! lol thanks

she looks almost identical to mine which is a halfmoon, so I would assume halfmoon is the type!
thank you for saving this little fishy. shes so cute. I hate when people use them as decoration. I think its far prettier and more decorative to have a big planted tank, all natural, with a happy fish in it.
the red on the gills could either be her normal color or ammonia burn, but I wanna say it’s just her color if your water parameters are fine. if you think shes sick, I would put some Indian almond leaves/other tannins in the water and just keep an eye on her. she should get better over time once she adjusts to the new tank.
my fish!! I got her from the pet store when she was almost dead, and just a couple weeks ago there wasn’t any blue on her fins, she looked just like yours. this is in a month and a half of progress!
