This kid was so excited to see us fishing today. He came around once and I watched me land a fish. He came around again and stood right behind me as I made a cast…. I had no idea he was even there 🤦🏻♂️ little dude took a hook to the back!!
Luckily this was the smallest crack bait I had in the box and his mom was able to get it out. But not without him screaming and shaking in pain. My heart sank as I realized what happened, fortunately, his parents were not upset up and wanted me not to worry about it. Hard lesson learned, hugged it out and will replace his favorite tee shirt. Another angler said he should not have been around especially without their supervision but still feel bad. 😞

Pay attention when you’re fishing with people around. Kids will run up to things. In the end it’s just an accident and no one was seriously hurt and I’m sure he won’t do that again. But you also need to pay attention.
At the end of the day it’s not your fault, and an accident but yall have to pay attention. There’s no reason someone should be able to walk up on you and stand behind you within a few feet and you not realize they’re there.
To tag him in the back means he was so close your rod went back over his head and the crank caught him on the front swing which would hurt like hell. Parents can’t be mad because they obviously weren’t watching little Tommy but again if we’re in public on the bank, we have to have better situational awareness
Man I glance back every single overhead or side cast if I’m bank fishing a public spot. This is as much a life lesson for you as it is for that kid.
I got a local pond that’s insanely busy. If ur on the dock especially but u literally have to watch when I go to cast just to make sure. Even on the bank ppl walking their dogs of their bikes constantly. lol now I drive and go to empty places, much calmer. But even if ppl shouldn’t walk up behind u, ppl snd kids still will, so we still have a responsibility to be aware of our surroundings
I don’t fish near anyone for this exact reason. Too many people are completely oblivious to the people around them and will cast blindly. Solo fishing is the only way.
