I thought I had tired him out enough to grab a lip but he shook his head and sent the front treble into my finger well past the barb. So I screamed of course and just latched onto him and managed to get him on board. A guy was watching me fight it so I asked if he could come help me out. He snapped a few pics, and I got the fish breathing again while he cut the lure off my pole. He was such a nice guy he even gave me a tow back to shore cause he knew it would be hard to paddle with a husky jerk hanging out of my hand. He really helped calm my nerves. If you're out there Alfred, you're the bomb.

Today I will be debarbing at least the front treble on my gear, might just do all of them.

Today I will be buying a hook proof/rubberized net. I've been putting it off but I've lost so many at the side of the boat and I go after pike a lot so it's definitely worth the investment. I spent more on the ER visit today than a net costs so I'm already behind

Net, always. I also pinch the barbs on my bigger dual treble lures. I may lose an extra fish or two but it’s not like I’m tournament fishing.
Also, invest in something that can cut through hooks. I’ve got a knipex cutter that lives in a ziplock bag along with my plastics. Haven’t had to use it yet, but nice to have just in case.

Yeah pushing the barb thru a finger would be nervy. Not fun.
