Current setup is a 9ft medium Heavy with a Diawa Bg 4k. Wanted to surf fish but It was busy and I got relegated to the Jetty.
Was using 15ib fluorocarbon leader, 2oz catfish/No-roll sinkers, and size 8 bait hooks in a Carolina rig. Outside of this fish, I mostly found my sand crabs being stolen right off the hook.
I did briefly use 4/0 Squid/circle hooks but they felt comically big for how small the sand crabs were.

I have a mate who has caught 60cm Kingfish on a size 6long shank. I have caught several pound bass / carp on a size 12 octopus hook. I had a 6LB salmon a size 8 octopus hook.
You would be very surprised how small a hook you can go. I advise to experiment as it is lots of fun.
Come on man, you’ve been here long enough to learn how to handle a fish…
