4 out of 5 died the first night 🙁
Determined to treat the survivor, now named Lemony, with the utmost care, I bought cichlid flakes because he kept spitting out the pellets, swapped the gravel for African cichlid substrate, removed the plants and added a cave that he loves, and a log he also seems to enjoy exploring. I also bought Cichlid Code trace elements but haven’t added them in yet.
The temp is maintained at 79, and I have a filter running. I bought a siphon vacuum thing and will do 25% weekly water changes. I also bought
Am I missing anything? He seems much better than a week ago. He’s darting all over and loves to eat.
I love watching him. It’s pretty peaceful

Did you get any tap water dechlorinator?
Youre left with a lelupi cichlid. Honestly the rest looked like peacocks which get much bigger. This could potentially be a suitable habitat for him just stay on top of water changes and do not add any other fish.
poor guys :[ wishing you luck!! you seem to be doing well and it’s clear you care about Lemony’s wellbeing. He is a cutie.
you said well water ? not sure where you live , well water here means typically extremely high hardness beyond even what mollies can tolerate , check the parameters . alternatively occasionally you get a batch with a disease , happened to me many times until i learned the hardway to NEVER skip hospital phase
Losing the fish is a tough part in fish keeping.
