  1. yeah it’s a learning curve. If you have it setup correctly, it’ll minimize backlashes.

  2. Just let out the line and respool it with tension once the bird’s nest is all off the reel, nbd!

I hated my baitcaster for a long time. I eventually was gifted a new one for my birthday and I loved it. Come to find out, it’s because the gifted one was $200 compared to my old one being $20. You definitely get what you pay for with baitcasters. I recommend just buying a standard Shimano SLX if you want to get into bait casters and watch a video or two on proper reel settings for beginners. I hope this helps!

Birds nest are just kind of the deal with baitcasters. I went from a cheap Zebco Nitro to a Daiwa Fuego thinking a better reel would be better and it’s pretty much the same. I found you have to rest your thumb on the spool because the reel spins faster than the line is coming off the spool. I also run a little more tension on the spool and the brake turned up higher. It limits the casting distance a bit but it’s better than it birdnesting all the time. Lol
I got so frustrated with mine that I went out and bought a Zebco Delta. Lol
