just picked up an used 7/8 weight and went out to test it. have fished with a 5 weight for some years. also im not sure the line is the right one for the job since i got the reel from a diffrent source. The seller didnt know anything about the line. Should be 7-9 weight line but not sure if its the best for coastal fishing. All tips ale welcome, looking to get into some seatrout business!

Overall it’s looking pretty good! Now I’m no casting instructor, but it looks like you’re maybe going a bit further than ideal on your back and forward casts. Thinking of it like a clock, It looks like you’re going 9 – 3. From what I’ve been told, 10-2 or even 11-1 is “better” for avoiding trailing loops and striking your fly on the ground on the back casts.
If you can swing it, I’d highly recommend some casting lessons. I’ve been fly fishing for nearly a decade now and I still book a session with a casting instructor every two years or so to fine tune my cast and help reinforce good habits
Too much upper body movement. When I cast, I use my elbow for 80% of the cast, coming back just until I feel the tug of the line on the rod tip on the back swing. Then, smooth forward, letting the line roll down the cast, not cracking the whip. If you want to cast further, try a weight forward line.
