Hey guys, I’ve been trying to get more into finesse fishing lately.

I mostly fish with a M casting setup right now, but the lakes around me have been getting tougher, and I keep hearing people say I should slow down and throw smaller stuff.

The problem is every time I look into finesse fishing, I end up falling into a gear rabbit hole 😂

Do I actually need a lighter rod, lighter reel, lighter handle, or can I just use what I have and learn the technique first?

For those who fish finesse a lot, what’s the one thing that actually made a difference for you?

the most important question is “how finesse you’re planning to fish”? for me anything finesse is straight spinning rod. own a light casting too but that’s another story. if you don’t want to overthink buy a spinning rod who can cast max 3/8 to 1/4 oz and you can cover plenty of rigs.

In the same boat, and I do think something lighter would be better for finesse.

My main issue is with casting light lures (1.8g – 7g). Been using M rods, and while throwing lighter lures with them isn’t impossible, I imagine it’ll be better with an ML rod.
