I’ve been on marketplace trying to find a good first kayak. I’m a heavier guy (300 pounds) so finding something affordable that can hold me is tough. I’ve found a feel free moken 14 that I think o can get for $200. It’s an hour drive which I’m willing to make. But it has a crack in the hull that’s been repaired. The owner says he hasn’t had any trouble and i believe him but I worry my extra weight might make it worse. Would you buy this kayak as a first timer for $200?

If i were to buy it i’d fix it properly first, that silicone or whatever it is definitely won’t hold for long

  2. Had the exact same model and had exact crack. Think it comes from either not enough support for the front half (like when car topping), or too much down force from bow line.

I am not an engineer, but guarantee this a fatal injury. Many other cracks can be repaired, but not with the forces that are exerted right there.

That being said, I really loved that Moken.

    RIP
