I have been runnng a 30" x 15" x 12" planted tropical community for around 6 months now (plus full and successful cycle of 7 weeks with plants). 78 litres (taking substrate and bogwood into account). All good, ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrate tends to run between 5 – 10. Its heavily planted, has an external APS EF-250 (800 l/h) and an internal old fluval 2 filled with floss. It has a moderate flow at the output end, without making the whole tank the river wild! PH between 7.5 and 7.8. Temp is 24c.
I have kept fish for 30 years, with only 1 year off, and I tended to larger tanks with mixed communities, or larger cichlids and any catfish (latest tank owned was a 5 x 2 x 2 and I keep responsibly so no RTC!). But generally messier fish so I am used to stocking with messy in mind!
I've stocked this current tank with smaller species than I'm used too and just want advice as to whether its OK, overstocked… deffo not under! I plan on setting up a second tank before the year is out (and seeding from the current on for a shorter cycle!) so have scope to move around a bit shortly.
So far stocking is
7 x 5 Banded barbs
7 x Rummy Nose rasboras
6 x Forktail rainbows
8 x Burmese Spotted danios
Need to finalise the space but the new tanks looking to be 2' x 2' x 18"

Honestly for me seems a little packed. But also, I think the thing is, you got a lot of different types busy little fish in there. And nothing that really occupies the bottom end of the tank. Is there a reason to get all of these all at once? Could you get some and see how it goes?
If it were me (and i guess I’m on a minimalist streakright now), I’d get maybe like 8 or so fork tails, your 8 danios and then maybe some pygmy corys or rosy loaches. 3 different species total, occupying high, mid and lower (in general).
If you decided that there’s space to be had after than, maybe some dwarf ottos or shrimp.
The rummy nosed, from my experience, look cool but have more of a looser interaction with each other and while they aren’t massive mine are bigger and bolder than the forktail rainbows.
Idk. Most of this is just aesthetics i guess. But in general more numbers of the same species is better than more species. And less numbers of fish over all is easier to handle for your parameters.
