Im an all-round angler focusing mainly on trout. Gonna seriously take up carp angling next year after a few fishery trips and catching a small 5.5lb common on my 1-5g spinning rod (great fun).
I don’t want to flood this sub with questions but I do want to ask for resources (e.g. YouTube channels). I’m aware of the basics like method feeders, cage feeders, hair rigs etc. but I don’t know much about rods/nets/ other equipment. And how to fish for carp properly (e.g. I’ve heard terms like lining, I would like to know why carp anglers prefer braid for rigs when I would use flurocarbon for trout etc.)

Check Mathew Collin’s, he’s a fan of mono rigs, really robust and cheap. If you are fishing outside Europe check catfish and carp, he gives really good pointers about bait.
Also check TA fishing, he has a no bs approach and has kids of money saving techniques.
And of course don’t forget to check fishing tutorials

In youtube Try korda master classes they are very informative, fishing with carl tutorials for rigs and basic knowledge, for bait there are two underrated channels, bait tactics and bait vault. And when i read your post it was just like looking into mirror, last year i also caught a carp with my trout rod ( also 1-6 g ) and i fell in love with carp . Now i own three carp rods , pod , bite alarms, unhooking mat ,a home lab for bait making ( jars, ph meter, ec meter , msg , bethain , cacl2 and so on ) 😂 . Carp fishing has a problem solving aspect to it that was very addictive for me.
