Aquariums: This isn’t AI—here’s how I planted and grew this tank

Unfortunately, my last post was temporarily removed because it was mistaken for AI-generated. After I explained everything to the mods, they believed me and restored the post, which I really appreciate. So I wanted to share my process with you all and show how I actually planted and grew this tank.

A few people asked how I grew this tank, so here’s what worked for me:

1. Substrate

I used aquasoil for this setup. I personally wouldn’t use coarse lava rock as the main planting layer because debris can settle into the gaps and make it harder to clean. Lava rock itself doesn’t cause algae, though—algae usually comes from an imbalance between light, CO₂, nutrients, and maintenance.

2. CO₂

I don’t run CO₂ 24/7. Mine comes on about one to two hours before the lights and shuts off roughly an hour before lights out. I also use a surface skimmer when needed to deal with surface film.

3. Lighting

Lighting makes a huge difference. I look for good intensity, even coverage, and a balanced spectrum rather than focusing only on the “full-spectrum” label. Mine runs for six hours a day.

4. Trimming and replanting

Limnophila sessiliflora grows incredibly fast. Mine was ready for a light trim after about three days, but growth rates will vary from tank to tank. I cut the taller stems and replant the healthy tops back into the aquasoil.
