You can drink anything until you can’t.

Would I bottle it and use it as my daily drink, no. Would I drink it if there wasn’t a better option, absolutely.

It’s like would you eat your fish, no why would you. But if it’s an emergency and you would die if you didn’t than ya, eat those fish and stay alive

    ….

it’s good to know I’m not the only one who has thought about it before

  3. Apparently if you have one of those life straws it will filter out sewage water 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you boil it yes. Or alternatively, there are emergency filter straws that filter out the harmful stuff. You have pretty big plant mass so amonia and piss/shit will be minimal in the water column.

Unless you can get a different filter and boil it, I’d avoid it.

In an emergency, getting something as “simple” as diarrhea could be fatal.

If that’s your last resort then it’s literally only better than nothing.

Probably not safe . Boiling doesn’t kill or filter everything . Also depends if you have any chemicals in water

They say one should have Like 20 litres of drinking water in Case of emergency.. i Just Look at my 200 litres aquarium and think.: Na, i’m good. 🙂

  8. Get a Sawyer personal water filter. They’re not super expensive ($30-$40) and they last a very long time. Don’t bother with life straws, they’re way overpriced for what they are.

Over almost three decades of aquarium keeping, I’m sure I’ve gotten quite a bit down my throat starting up the siphon when changing water. Wouldn’t do it by choice, but have yet to experience any negative impacts, whether salt or fresh.

This just unlocked an awful memory/confession from my childhood. I had an aquarium in my room growing up. I also had just gotten two pet mice that were supposed to have been the same genders, but then reproduced. One morning before school, I was rushing and being lazy and filled the mice’s water bottle out of the fish tank. When I got home from school, the poor mice were not running around like normal. I changed the water and fed them and hoped for the best, but it was too late. Next morning they were all dead. I figured out aquarium water was not good for mammals like it is for houseplants.

  11. If your nitrates are above 10 mg/l, not for very long. Nitrate starves the blood of oxygen (and is one of the main causes of blue baby syndrome, not that you’re giving this to your kids). While you’d recover after you stop consumption, I’m not sure what the short term effects would be like if they’re elevated like mine
