Can anyone tell me what kind of creature my fish is turning in to..? Kidding, but only kind of ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hereโ€™s a photo of when I got her vs now.

She was labeled as a female elephant ear(?) when I bought her. She was like 1/3 the size she is now, (figuratively) circling the drain, in really rough shape and I just didnโ€™t want her to die in a plastic cup without trying. Fast forward 6-7 weeks. Iโ€™m not even sure if itโ€™s a she? Sheโ€™s enormous, her eyes have turned black, and her body is starting to turn black too. I feel like thereโ€™s no way itโ€™s from being sick? She eats and seems way better off than when I got her.. but also, I have no idea and I could be way wrong. Is it normal for her to be turning black?

  1. Completely normal! Bettas lose pigment when theyโ€™re sick, stressed, or old. They gain pigment as they get healthier! So good job!

  2. You should take it as a compliment. She likes the home you provided for her so she is thriving and showing off her true colours

  4. Sheโ€™s happy!!

I rescued my Nui from a pet store for free. The lovely girl was treating him for fin rot and I mentioned I had an empty cycled 5gal. I wish I had a photo because my tiny boy was mostly pinkish white with some small freckles of color.

He glowed up and looks similar to your girl. You are being a great parent!!

(Sorry for the blurry pic, but you can see heโ€™s not pink anymore)
